Summer brings us celebrations at the beach, film and music festivals, world-famous Carnival Week in Provincetown, and the ever-popular "Hookers Ball" under a big white tent.

Free Movies at Chatham Orpheum Theater

When: Daily in August, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.

Where: The Orpheum Theater, 637 Main Street, Chatham, MA

Chatham's Orpheum Theater shows free, family friendly movies every morning this month.

Doors to the theater open at 9 a.m. The show starts at 9:30 a.m.

Tickets are free, available at the box office the morning of the show. Seating is first come, first served.


Yarmouth Sand Sculpture Trail

When: Daily in August 2024

Where: Throughout the town of Yarmouth, MA

Admission: Free

Follow the Sand Sculpture Trail to see the mind-blowing works of nationally renowned artist and sculptor, Sean Fitzpatrick!

This year, you'll find Sean's creative, amusing and totally family friendly sand sculptures in 33 different locations around the town of Yarmouth.


Carousel of Light

When: Daily in August, 2024 (weather permitting) from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: Mullen-Hall Elementary School, 130 Katharine Bates Road, Falmouth

Admission:  Single ride tickets $4. Punch card for a book of 10 rides $25.

This hand-carved, twirling work of art features 20 wooden horses and 2 wheelchair accessible chariots (including one called "Bubbles" that actually blows bubbles!), all decked out in a nautical flair. 

Come out for a ride on one of the most popular attractions in Falmouth - the Carousel of Light.


Cape Symphony Presents: "Summer Jazz"

When: Fridays in August 2024, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Where: Devil's Purse Brewing Company, 120 Great Western Road, South Dennis MA

Join Cape Symphony and Devil’s Purse Brewing Company this summer for Friday evenings filled with local jazz, beer, and food in the heart of Cape Cod.

Stony Brook Grist Mill & Museum Open House

When: Saturdays in August, 2024, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (Also see below for special event!)

Here's your chance to see this fully restored, 19th century water-powered gristmill in action!

Watch as the miller grinds kernels of corn into cornmeal the old fashioned way. Buy a bag of freshly ground organic cornmeal. Visit the museum upstairs where you'll learn about the history of Stony Brook Village and see weaving demonstrations on the antique "barn loom". Then spend some time exploring the scenic footpaths on Stony Brook's grounds.

*Special Event: Saturday, August 24th is an extra-special day at Stony Brook. It's the annual Cornbread Festival. Stop by and sample homemade corn bread made from corn meal ground at the Mill. Get there early, before all the samples are gone!


Cape Cod Classics: Cruise Nights

When: Saturdays in August 2024, 5 p.m. to dusk

Saturday nights in August, tourists and locals alike revel in the opportunity to see all makes & models from classic antiques, muscle cars, trucks, restoMods, and classic exotics to the new EV cars.

You never know what kind of cars will show up. Come see for yourself!


Bayberry Quilters 40th Annual Quilt Show

When: July 31 - August 2, 2024

Where: Cape Cod Technical High School, 351 Pleasant Lake Ave., Harwich, MA

Admission: $12/adult; children under 12 - Free

Bayberry Quilters of Cape Cod's 41st annual show features 250+ beautiful quilts including special displays of "Welcome Aboard" themed quilts.

In addition to the quilt displays, there'll be lots of activities for both beginning and experienced quilters.


Woods Hole Film Festival

When: Through August 3, 2024

The Festival showcases a wide variety of screenings and events during its eight-day run. Truly, something for everyone!


"Hookers Ball" 

When: August 3, 2024

The name of this event got your attention, didn't it?

Held under a big white tent on the grounds of the Chatham VFW, this exceptional evening highlights fresh-from-the-boat seafood, a one-of-a-kind live auction and an extensive silent auction with items from the Cape's great businesses, artists and services.


Chatham Summer Craft Festival

When: August 3, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and August 4, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Where: Chatham Community Center Lawn, 702 Main Street, Chatham, MA

Explore a charming crafts fair showcasing 55 talented artisans selling their exceptional American-made creations. You'll find a diverse range of items including jewelry, photography, art, candles, signs, pet gifts, towels, glassware, and more. Plus unique finds like whimsical garden art, knives, woodwork, bath products, calligraphy, fine art, and plenty of  specialty foods, too.


National Night Out

When: August 6, 2024, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. *Canceled due to weather*

Where: Mattacheese Middle School Field, 400 Higgins Crowell Road, West Yarmouth, MA

Come see what the Yarmouth Police are all about. Interact with officers, check out policing and DPW equipment, fire apparatus, and have loads of fun!

There will be free face painting, cotton candy, a dunk tank. There'll also be a K9 and SWAT demo and an obstacle course for children.


Woods Hole Science Stroll

When: August 10, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: Along Water Street in Woods Hole, MA

Admission: Free

Come explore the world of science along Water Street in Woods Hole, and get close-up views of instruments and equipment used in current scientific research.

Talk with those doing the research and building the technology. See live animal exhibits, participate in hands-on activities and crafts, see demonstrations, tour a commercial scalloper and learn about cooperative research with the fishing industry.

Engage with staff from more than a dozen of the village’s marine science and educational organizations.

*Tip: Take the WHOOSH trolley from Falmouth to Woods Hole or ride your bike as parking is limited to metered street parking and some free parking in designated lots .


Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble Concert

When: August 15, 2024 at 6 p.m.

Where: Windmill Green, 2515 State Hwy., Eastham, MA

Join the U.S. Air Force Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble for an energy packed concert!

Enjoy your favorite Big Band standards along with a patriotic tribute to our veterans and active duty service members.

This event is free, and no tickets are needed.


Provincetown "Carnival"

When: August 17 - 24, 2024

Where: Multiple venues and events around Provincetown

Now in its 46th year, this week-long celebration of LGBTQ+ life  attracts tens of thousands of guests from all over the world to enjoy parties, events, costume contests, and the wild and crazy  Carnival parade down Commercial Street.

This year's Carnival theme is "Renaissance + Revolution". No doubt the festivities will be as big and boisterous as ever!

TIP: This is a super-popular event in Provincetown, and accommodations sell out early. If you're planning to be here for the festivities, book your lodging now!


Festival of the Arts in Chatham

When: August 16, 17 & 18, 2024, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Cape Cod Creative Arts Center, 154 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA

Festival of the Arts boasts 120 fine artisans and craftsmen presenting their original and handcrafted artwork, jewelry, fabric, pottery, fashion, wood, glass, metalwork and so much more

Along with showcasing high-end arts and crafts, the family-friendly festival features a children’s tent offering face painting and art activities for the kids.

Shuttle bus service and food trucks will be available, too.


Falmouth Walk

When:  August 17, 2024

Where: Downtown Falmouth (or virtually, if you choose, from wherever you are)

Entry Fee: $35 per participant; pre-registration required

The 33rd Annual Falmouth Walk is set for August 17th.

The picturesque 5K (about 3.2 miles) course will once again flow through the charming streets of Falmouth along the bustling Falmouth Harbor and past the storefronts of Main Street to the finish at St. Barnabas Church by the Town Green.  

The entry fee for this event includes a Falmouth Walk tee shirt and official walk bib number. All profits from the Falmouth Walk benefit local charities.


Falmouth Road Race

When: August 18, 2024

Where: Throughout the town of Falmouth

The ASICS Falmouth Road Race is one of the most anticipated Cape Cod events each August. Over 10,000 runners from Cape Cod and around the world participate in the race each year. 

This year's race will again follow a beautiful 7-mile seaside course, with spectators lining the route to cheer the runners on. Whether you're running or spectating, this is a don't miss event!


Cornbread Festival at the Gristmill

When: August 24, 2024, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Stony Brook Gristmill, 830 Stony Brook Road, Brewster

Admission: Free

Have you ever tasted cornbread made from freshly ground cornmeal?

Here's your chance to watch corn being ground the centuries-old way: by water power ... and to sample Cape Cod-style  cornbread made with Stony Brook's "home-ground" cornmeal.

*FYI: Once your taste buds have experienced this delicious treat, they'll never be satisfied with the store-bought stuff again! ;-)

Free cornbread samples will be given out until they're all gone. Get there early so you don't miss out!


Second Summer Celebration

When: August 31, 2024, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (rain date Sept. 1)

Where: Multiple locations in Hyannis

Admission: Free

Join the Town of Barnstable for a "Second Summer Celebration" and fireworks display to celebrate the unofficial end of summer!

Bring the family for a day of fun, including the Amplify POC Vendor Fair on the Hyannis Village Green, Movement Arts Cape Cod’s Dance and Movement Showcase at Aselton Park, a beach dance party at Veterans Park Beach, followed by a fireworks display over Lewis Bay to cap off the day.

All activities are free, and everyone is welcome.


Dennis Festival Days

When: August 25 to September 1, 2024

Where: Various venues in the town of Dennis

Admission: Free

The ever-popular "Dennis Festival Days" kicks off on Sunday morning as the 66th Annual Antique Car Parade winds its way through all 7 villages in the town of Dennis.

Monday brings Field Day to Johnny Kelley Recreation Area (4:30 to 7:30 p.m.), featuring a pie-eating contest, food trucks, DJ music by JT Chronicles, Fire Safety House, Touch a Truck, kickball game and more.

On Tuesday, Mr. Gotcha performs in Dennis Port at Mike Stacy Park Gazebo from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.

And on Thursday, Dennis Village Green is the place be from 5:30 60 6:45 p.m., as Chandler Travis Three-O performs delightfully creative and whimsical selections and sing alongs.

Last but certainly not least, Dennis Festival Days ends on Sunday evening with the annual Beach Party, bonfire and fireworks at West Dennis Beach.

What a way to wrap up summer vacation season!
