That's definitely not what we're talking about here!

Instead, think: comfy accommodations without a lot of extra amenities to drive your lodging costs through the roof.

• Are you fine with a basic bed and bathroom with few frills? Consider smaller motels or maybe even a hostel.
  
  
• Want to limit your lodging outlay and save most of your budget for food and fun? Camping could be your best choice.
  
  (Not a fan of tent camping? Go for a yurt or a rustic cabin. They're an option at several campgrounds on the Cape.)
  
  

Stay a little inland. You can save a lot and still be just a few minutes walk from the beach.

Eat Well Without Blowing the Budget

I'm not going to sugar-coat it: dining out on the Cape can take a big bite out of your vacation budget. (Bad puns. Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

But don't worry. You won’t have to live on oyster crackers and water to keep your food costs in check.

Eating inexpensively on the Cape just takes a little planning — and the will power to resist overdoing it on lobster rolls. (Says the girl who could happily devour one every day of the week!)

My go-to lobster roll spot (Young's at Rock Harbor) — great views, super-fresh seafood, and always friendly service!

• Will you have access to a fridge and a stove, grill, or campfire? Stock up on groceries when you get here. A few cook-it-yourself meals let you stretch your food budget without feeling like you’re missing out.
  
  
• No cooking facilities? Grab breakfast from a local bakery, then pack sandwiches and snacks for beach days, and go with takeout for dinner. Cape Cod has plenty of casual spots we locals hit when we don’t feel like cooking.
  
  
• Planning to have some special meals out? Do it! Then balance things out with DIY meals and no-frills takeout to keep your food budget in check.

Lobster Feast on a Budget

Craving a lobster feast, but don't want to pay restaurant prices

Most Cape Cod seafood markets will steam your lobsters for you. Just call ahead to order and set a pickup time. Get some deli sides and rolls from the grocery store, and voilà ... a lobster feast at a fraction of restaurant prices.

Enjoy it on your deck or at a picnic table in the park. Then wrap up the night with a round of mini-golf and an ice cream cone. Hard to beat that for a classic Cape Cod evening!
